ben & i entered into marriage with great anticipation & excitement nearly 4 years ago, i suppose most people feel that way, but maybe different couples have different reasons. one of the most joyous aspects of marriage for me was the reality that we would get to build a home together. i don't mean a physical building with a roof, [although a house is fun] i mean a home that's about something, a family with purpose. no matter what we were like growing up, no matter how our families ran things or how our friends do it, it's up to us to build our own home, our own little family that glorifies God. certainly something of such gravity can't rest on our own effort and our own wisdom, we knew we'd have to heavily rely on God & his word to teach us what it takes to 'build'. our hope and prayer is that our home & family would be built on the one thing that really matters, the unshakable rock that is Christ.
i hope one day that ben & i will write out our testimonies to add here, a giant reminder of what God has done for us & the moment that we recognized that immense love & life offered by a Creator who pursues. but until then we're using this little blog to do that daily. a daily testimony of what God is doing right now as we learn to build our home / life / family on rock.

in 1 corinthians 3:10-11 paul says:
'by the grace God has given me, i laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. but each one should build with care. for no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.'

paul was talking about building a church full of disciples [and how to be united] but i think this message stands true for us as well - the foundation that we choose for our life [individually] & home [together] matters. it's huge - it has consequence now and more importantly, consequence that lasts forever!
in matthew 7:21-27 Jesus says:
"not everyone who says to me, 'Lord Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. many will say to me on that day 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?' then i will tell them plainly, ' i never knew you. away from me, you evildoers!'
"therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on a rock. the rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against the house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. but everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his on sand. the rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."
we want to stand whether in blessing or trial all the days of our life founded and built on the truth of who Jesus is and the promise of what's to come. i want us to stand in the end in front of our Heavenly Father and hear him say, "well done my good & faithful servant."
